Jerry Garcia - Oregon State Prison 5-5-82

This is Jerry Garcia playing acoustic with John Kahn on the bass in front of a small audience of inmates at the Oregon state penitentiary on 5-5-82.
The recording is decent with only a couple of flaws. Jerry was in great spirits this day and his playing reflects it. Jerry sounds much like he does on Run For The Roses, the last of his solo albums which was recorded around the same time.

Most deadheads will already have this in their collection and if anybody is willing to trade for the lossless soundboard version in circulation I’d love to get a copy. Here is the info from the etree db. As far as I know, this show has never been officially released and is under no copyright restrictions.

2. Friend Of The Devil 5:45
3. Jack-A-Roe 4:39

Folk song a day project

On 24th June 2010 – Midsummer’s Day – acclaimed singer, Jon Boden, launched an ambitious new project – A Folk Song A Day. Every day for one year Jon is posting a traditional song online to promote the art of ‘social’ (or communal) singing. Now largely confined to football grounds and places of worship, social singing was once the domain of public houses throughout the land. Ending with 12 digital albums (one released each month), containing a total of 365 songs, Jon Boden will also be providing a unique, traditional folk song resource for those looking for inspiration; social singing made possible by contemporary technology.

Aside from the two solo albums mentioned below Jon has released several highly acclaimed albums with fast-rising big band Bellowhead (the latest of which is due to be released later this year) as well as Vagabond with the equally feted traditional duo, Spiers & Boden (2008). He has also recorded and performed with Eliza Carthy on one of her Mercury Prize nominated albums.

Jon Boden was born in Chicago in 1977, grew up in Winchester, graduated in Mediaeval Studies from Durham University and since becoming a parent, has settled in the South Yorkshire dales.

Jon has toured internationally with Bellowhead, performed on Later with Jools Holland (alongside new fans, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and also made two televised appearances at the BBC 2008 Proms. Bellowhead were recently appointed Band in Residence at London’s South Bank Centre, following in the footsteps of St Etienne.

Additionally, Jon has composed several theatre scores, most recently for ‘The Merchant of Venice’ at the RSC’s Statford-upon-Avon Theatre as well as for ‘Hamlet’ at The Globe (2008).

Neil Young & Crazy Horse-The Complex Sessions (1994)

On October 3, 1994, director Johnathan Demme filmed Neil Young & Crazy Horse as they performed songs from their just completed album Sleeps With Angels at Complex Recording Studios in Los Angeles, California. The result was a sort of video EP called The Complex Sessions, which at one time was released on videotape & laser disc (remember that?) but never on DVD and is now long out of print. Perhaps it will be a part of a future volume of Neil Young's Archives series but for now, it deserves to be seen without having to fork over cash to anyone who isn't going to get some of it to Neil Young.

This is beautifully shot footage of an emotional, amazing performance that was referred to by music critic Paul Williams in this review from June of 1996 as "Neil Young's - and rock n' roll's - finest moment."

Fairport's Cropredy Convention 2010 (18th September 2010)

Cropredy is a village five miles north of Banbury in Oxfordshire. Every August, its inhabitants welcome an invasion of up to 20,000 music lovers for Fairport's Cropredy Convention. The event is held over the second full weekend of August, from Thursday afternoon to midnight on Saturday.
